We are a community-based volunteer organization dedicated to advocating for Sacramento Public Library and raising funds for enhanced services at all library branches.

Volunteer -  Join Us!

Our volunteer opportunities include:

  • Book Den volunteers accept and sort gently used books and sell them in the Book Den store and at monthly Warehouse Sales, and list and ship books on Amazon and eBay. Download an adult volunteer application here or a teen application here. **The Book Den is currently unable to accept new volunteers. We will notify potential volunteers when this changes.
  • Our 28 Branch Friends groups support their local Library branch through book sales and other special events.
  •  Membership on the System Board or one of its committees.
  • Book First, a program sponsored by the Friends in which the Sacramento Public Library gives a free book to First-Graders in low-income schools. In addition to funding this program, Friends volunteers sort the books and distribute them. Classroom visits begin late in the year and continue through the spring. This year those will be done through Zoom.

When volunteer opportunities are available, they are always posted on our home page on the lower left button.

"Volunteering for the Friends is my version of paradise...surrounded by thousands of great books and making possible for everyone to enjoy reading and building their own library of treasures and most of all working with talented and interesting people."  Jane
